Lymphomas: new advances in Toulouse - 30 nov. 2020

Thanks to your donations, Eva pour la vie supports Fabienne MEGGETTO's team (INSERM / CRTC Toulouse), whose latest discovery is important: T lymphocytes transformed in their laboratory help to better understand the origin of the most common lymphoma in the child. Understanding the causes and origins of pediatric cancers can make it possible, on the one hand, to improve prevention, and on the other hand, to provide better and faster treatment with appropriate treatments.
Anaplastic large cell lymphoma is one of the most common pediatric T lymphomas. It mainly affects CD4 lymphocytes, the armed arms of the immune system, and is associated in more than 80% of cases with the chromosomal translocation of the gene encoding the oncogenic protein ALK.

Although chemotherapy is often effective, about 30% of patients either do not respond to treatment or relapse with more severe disease. It is therefore essential to know the genesis of this cancer.

By forcing normal CD4 lymphocytes to express the oncogenic protein from this NPM-ALK chromosomal translocation, a European team made up in particular of scientists from the Toulouse Cancer Research Center (CRCT - CNRS, INSERM, University of Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier), successfully modeled anaplastic large cell lymphoma in the laboratory. This work is published in Journal of Clinical Investigation .
